Quantum Entanglement

Quantum Entanglement – Video Installation Work, 2018
DATA
Quantum Entanglement Video Installation Artwork, 2018
2 of 27 inches wide monitors x H 1800 mm
MP4 Video, 2 monitors, PLA object sculptures, audio copper wires, head sets, Steel bar, rotational steel joints, MRI photographs in Digital data

CONTEXT

If one thing behaves, another side behaves oppositely.  Those two things synchronize without having any agents.  A distance of the connected link between two things can be as close as zero or can be as far as the distance of a galaxy.   Perspective of the world can be like a cosmic order since one thing accepts the outcome by synchronizing with another outcome.  Quantum appears in front of you once you observe it.  Does the consciousness of what you would like to see affect the outcome of it’s observation?  Is it meaningless to wish for something you desire to see and hoping that it comes out in front of you after you open your eyes?  I think there are many ways of fate existing in the world and I think how you open your eyes with a certain consciousness would affect the outcome of what comes out in front of you.  I have an option of choosing my life.  There are two sides to things coming out in front of you when you open your eyes so enjoy whichever side you like.

960 x 1620 x 50 mm
Micro SD, Canvas, Digital Data

CONTEXT

I’ve been trying to achieve an expression of a certain dignity and pressure in my digital art creation by using various methods such as putting more than 800 layers in Photoshop.
By challenging various methods, I found out that multiple layers can fit inside this tiny digital card instantaneously.  I can feel technology has been advancing but at the same time, speed and ease of copying and pasting digital data gave me a sense of emptiness.  I’ve installed heavy designs of my digital art piece into each SD card but what do I find beyond there?

The Flower Has Bloomed cuz The Neck Was Broken

The Flower Has Bloomed cuz The Neck was Broken, 2018
1640 x 1960 x 500 mm
Acrylic on wood canvas

CONTEXT

It’s been one hell of a ride to come this far.  It wasn’t easy to accept the outcome of the accident which destroyed my neck in half and all other surrounding things of my life.  I have been trying hard to reconstruct and strengthen my shattered mentality and life in a different method.  If I could walk, I could have held a girl’s hand to go out for a date, however I can’t anymore. Now I have a different way of life and a different road to take. But, I can say out loud that the flower has bloomed because I broke my neck.  I made my portrait by using multimedia on a 2-meter wide wooden canvas.  And then painting on the canvas while holding a paint brush attached to a 1.6-meter long fishing rod in my mouth.

It took me four days to complete.  In order to paint on each corner of the canvas, I had to rotate the canvas, and sometimes turn it upside down, to batter my brush against the canvas.

Making the texture by using a stamp which was made of a special material, painting of the symbol mark “Kinky Line” by utilizing a masking technique, and layers of the printed word “medium” gave multi-stratification to the artwork.

The PriMeR HeATs

DATA
PrIMER HeATS, 2018
970 x 1620 x 100 mm
PLA, Urethane Paint, Fake Leather, Zipper, Wood Canvas

CONTEXT

You will find out this piece inside if you open the zipper attached on back of my neck.  My doctor clamped my broken backbone with bolts but my torn spinal cord is toast.  However, my cervical spine is always burning hot in a candy red color.  The defect in my body gives me a burning desire. The current medical care is just amazing.  I can move my neck without any problems, and more importantly, I am still alive.  Clamped bolts gave me a certain limit in a range of neck motion but I don’t give a damn.  I’m going to move my eyeballs more, not move my neck more.

Vision Play with Male Mouse

VISION PLAY WITH MALE MOUSE, 2018
DATA
Vision Play with Male Mouse, 2018
727 x 910 x 350 mm
PLA, Urethane Paint, Wood Canvas, Audio Jack Cable

CONTEXT

This is a fun piece of visual perception.  A mouse can be harmful but can be also a hero or an idol figure.  People tend not to construe things thoroughly and sometimes misinterpret the definition of coolness, beauty, or fear.  Plus they break down the component elements and extract only partial elements of the meaning.  We have a longing for one mouse but we are also blindfolded without understanding why we have a longing for it.

Vitruvian Man as His Skull Is

DATA
Vitruvian Man as His Skull Is, 2018
420 x 594 x 150 mm
Acrylic Boards, Brush, Watch, Paper, Money Bills, Coffee Beans, Tabacco, Acrylic Paints

CONTEXT

This is a citation of Leonardo Da Vinci’s Vitruvian Man.  When I’ve lost external looks and physical proportion and started to accept the reality, I decided to reconfigure my mental proportion and the structure of my consciousness and personal experience.  I’ve been trying to accept / overcome / revitalize / develop / transcend my complexes by travelling to many places, having many opportunities, and meeting many people.
Multi-layered conception and ill-ordered elements still dominate in my mind but making things in order is not only virtue I should seek for.  A brain cannot function properly if your skull is not aligned according to the gravity but all elements can just loom over beside it.

The Neuron Networks

2170 x 5420 x 1800 mm | 85.5 x 213.4 x 70.9 in
Bean sprouts,Acrylic case,Polyethylene Board

CONTEXT

Don’t get me wrong, all I wish for isn’t t the recovery of my body.  As a matter of fact, a mechanism of nerve reconstruction is very philosophical.  It’s like a relationship of humans.  Nerve systems amend the neuron network whenever it is broken or cut off.  It tells us that it is possible to recover what has been broken.  You must not give up even though your main line is cut off.  You can always expect revitalization from a simple sprout and lateral bud.

The Octopus Sucks

DATA
The Octopus Sucks, 2018
400 x 1600 x 400 mm
PLA, Urethane Paint, Steel Bars, Screw Rods, Audio Copper Wire

CONTEXT

I know what it’s like to be at rock bottom.  My mentality was in the pits, my life was in total despair, and thought my life would end.  However, a bottom has a physical limit of how far you can fall.  I grabbed a creature living at the rock bottom of the ocean and started my ascension.  Letting this creature dance all it likes on top of my skull.  This octopus sucked down on my brain as it adhered to my skull.  The external inspiration given by the octopus formed a sense of myself as well as giving a freedom to the octopus to form its hairstyle.  My neck and spine were broken but this creature from the bottom of the ocean brought me a whole new style to expose the fiber of my being.  This piece represents a perfect balance of two living things coming from the fallen place.

Metamorfose

Metamorfose, 2018
DATA
Metamorfose, 2018
2000 x 5240 x 2900 mm
PLA, Urethane Paint, Rose, Wood

CONTEXT

Metamorphose of a butterfly from an egg to become an imago is bizarrely beautiful.  This art piece is aimed for an internal edification of WHILL Corporation, which develops and manufactures personal mobility devices.  WHILL is a company which runs ahead of the industry and innovates new value so I wanted to express the sense of freedom and strength of an eagle gliding through the air.  It is a bit scary to change the external look into something totally different.  However, a butterfly changes its look and shape to survive and fly away.  That is the identity of living matter.

CONTEXT

Back in the day when I was younger, I was neck-deep in freestyle skiing.  Even in the summer, I was looking at the sky through the classroom window and hoping that there would be snowfall.  I was thinking about skiing day and night.  However, skiing which I loved so much resulted in a terrible accident.   I suffered from a dislocation fracture of my cervical spine.  I could not breathe and all I could do was lean heavily against mother earth.  Soon after, I was surrounded by negative elements.
However, I think that was the turning point of my life.  A terrible experience can act as a reset button for life and also become a whole new primer for a different direction.  My damaged neural network started restructuring, transmitting signals through my brain, and taking my life to a new direction.
